NSN sees delay in takeover of Motorola networks business
Nokia Siemens Networks' planned takeover of Motorola's network equipment business is delayed. NSN said the transaction will no longer close by the end of March, as previously expected, as the companies are still awaiting clearance from the Chinese regulatory authorities. This is the second delay, after an earlier close date was set for end-2010. The proposed acquisition has entered phase three of the review process with the Anti-Monopoly Bureau of the Ministry of Commerce in China, meaning an extension of 60 days for examining the transaction. Nokia Siemens Networks said it "remains committed" to the acquisition but will not say when it expects to close the deal. First announced in July 2010 for USD 1.2 billion, the acquisition already has approval from competition authorities in the US and Europe. However, a court case filed by Chinese rival Huawei, to ensure Motorola does not share any intellectual property from its previous cooperation with Huawei, may be holding up the clearance from China.
