OnePlus has announced plans to continue its integration with partner Oppo by also merging its OxygenOS software with Oppo’s ColorOS with a view to improving the user experience. In a blog post, OnePlus said the operating systems will be merged “at codebase level”, meaning users are unlikely to even notice the changes. “OxygenOS remains the OS for global OnePlus users as always, but now built on a more stable and stronger platform,” said OnePlus, adding that the move should also ensure better Android update support in the future.
The codebase-level merger between OxygenOS and ColorOS will occur via an OTA update along with Android 12, with OnePlus also announcing that its flagship phones the OnePlus 8 and newer phones will receive three major Android updates and four years of security updates.
OnePlus has relied on Oppo for manufacturing support since it started eight years ago, and both companies are part of the bigger BBK Electronics conglomerate.
