OnePlus to work with Hasselblad on cameras for upcoming OnePlus 9 series

OnePlus has signed a three-year contract with camera and lens make Hasselblad. The cooperation should see an improved camera system for the upcoming OnePlus 9 series, set to launch on 23 March, OnePlus confirmed via Twitter. Under the deal, OnePlus will invest over USD 150 million into improving its imaging capabilities over the coming three years. The investment will include four research and development labs around the world, including two in the US and Japan.

OnePlus will put its attention on panoramic camera improvements, fast focus on the front-facing camera and edge distortion elimination for ultra-wide images.

"By partnering with OnePlus, we hope to put Hasselblad's iconic design and outstanding image quality in the hands of more people and share our passion for incredible photography," said Jon Diele, vice president at Hasselblad, reported by Cnet.

This is not the first cooperation between a smartphone and camera maker. Hasselblad partnered with Motorola in 2016 on the Hasselblad True Zoom Moto Mod, which could attach onto Moto Z phones and give them a 10x zoom lens. Huawei and Leica have been working together for many years.
