Orange Spain upgrades FTTH network to 1 Gbps with XG-PON
Orange Spain announced the activation of the new technology XG-PON on its FTTH network, in order to deliver speeds up to 1 Gbps. In addition to supporting four times faster downloaded speeds and double the upload speeds for fixed broadband customers, the technology will be used to connect mobile base stations and boost Orange's backbone capacity for its 4G network. 

Orange said the increased speed is possible without replacing existing fibre connections. It's also preparing for the next upgrade of fibre technology, TWDM-PON, which will quadruple download speeds again. Since its acquisition of Jazztel, Orange's FTTH network passes 5 million homes across Spain. The company said it will introduce new offers with the expanded broadband capacity from September.

Over half of Orange Spain's mobile traffic is 4G

Orange Spain has announced that data traffic carried on its 4G network now exceeds the traffic transmitted over its 3G and 2G networks. In a statement, Orange revealed that 52.7 percent of the data generated by its customers between 11 and 17 January travelled over its 4G-LTE networks, the first time the figure has passed the 50 percent threshold. Orange Spain is set to increase the monthly price of its popular Delfin and Ballena mobile tariffs in exchange for more data starting 04 October, reports Europa Press. Spanish consumer body denounces Orange price hikes

Spanish consumers association Facua denounced Orange's plan to raise prices for existing subscribers to its convergent offer next month and said it would lodge complaints with an array of government departments and industry watchdogs. Orange Spain converged offer price to rise from 20 September

Orange Spain will increase the monthly price for both new and existing clients of its Canguro convergent offers by EUR 2 from 20 September but will increase the data allowance by 500 MB, online news provider Xatakamovil.com reported. The base price of the Canguro unlimited offer, which includes unlimited voice minutes and fibre or ADSL internet access of up to 50 Mbps will increase to EUR 55.95 from EUR 53.95, with a mobile data allowance of 3 GB, up from 2.5 GB.

Jazztel fibre network hits 4 mln households
