More than three-quarters (77%) of German internet users over 14 stream films, TV shows and other videos on the internet, 60 percent of which use media libraries from TV channels, according to a new Bitkom survey. Nearly four in ten (39%) watch TV programmes live on the internet, and 56 percent use video portals such as Youtube, Vimeo or Vevo.
On-demand portals such as Amazon Video, Apple iTunes, Google Play, Maxdome, Netflix, Sky Go or Watchever are increasingly popular, used by 25 percent compared to 22 percent last year and 19 percent the year before. Some 70 percent of the users pay for individual videos and 41 percent pay for a subscription to get unlimited access.
Video streaming is particularly popular among young viewers; 88 percent of the respondents aged 14 to 29, and 90 percent of those between 30 and 49 use streaming services. The percentage decreases to 66 percent among those aged 50 to 64 and goes further down to 36 percent among viewers over 65.
