Phoenix Tower International, a mobile infrastructure company backed by Blackstone, has signed a deal with French operator Bouygues Telecom to form a joint venture that will invest in around 4,000 new mobile towers over a 12-year period. The sites will be located outside very densely populated areas of France and will help Bouygues meet its mobile coverage objectives linked to the 'New Deal' programme, agreed between French operators and the government in early 2018.
The JV will own and operate the new mobile towers, enabling Bouygues to strengthen its network in rural communities and alongside transport routes. Phoenix Tower has not disclosed its stake in the venture, but said that it would be the majority shareholder.
In February, Blackstone recapitalised Phoenix Tower raising USD 1.4 billion to support the company’s growth plans. The business owns over 8,000 towers and has a presence in the United States, the US Virgin Islands, Costa Rica, Panama, El Salvador, Guatemala, Colombia, Peru, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, France, Jamaica, Argentina, Ecuador, and Bolivia.
