Qualcomm releases Snapdragon 768G mobile gaming chip

Qualcomm Technologies released the Qualcomm Snapdragon 768G mobile gaming chip, a follow-on to the Snapdragon 765G. Snapdragon 768G is designed to bring next-level performance that enables smart, immersive gaming experiences with the integration of global 5G, on-device AI and select Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite Gaming features. 

The Snapdragon 768G offers performance enhancements over the 765G such as the Qualcomm Kryo 475 CPU Prime with core clock speed of up to 2.8 GHz (improved from 2.4 GHz) and the Qualcomm Adreno 620 GPU with up to 15 percent performance increase, as well as support for Adreno Updateable GPU drivers.

In addition, the Snapdragon 768G is designed to deliver superior gaming performance, 5G connectivity, and intelligent multi-camera functionalities, while also preserving battery life, Qualcomm said. The Snapdragon 768G is also pin- and software-compatible with Snapdragon 765 and 765G. 

The company said that the Redmi K30 5G Racing Edition is the first commercial device to be announced based on Snapdragon 768G. The phone comes with 5G SA/NSA dual-mode, a 120Hz display and up to 64-megapixel camera.

Infineon partners with Qualcomm to develop 3D authentication application for mobile devices

German semiconductor manufacturer Infineon Technologies has partnered with Qualcomm to develop a 3D authentication application for mobile devices. The application is based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Mobile Platform. The companies have already cooperated to introduce the small (4.4 mm x 5.1 mm) 3D image sensor with VGA resolution.

Infineon, Qualcomm to develop reference design for 3D authentication

Infineon said it is working with Qualcomm to develop a reference design for 3D authentication based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Mobile Platform. The move will extend Infineon's 3D sensor technology for mobile devices. Infineon said the reference design uses the REAL3 3D Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensor and will enable a standardised, cost-effective and easy-to-design integration for smartphone manufacturers. The company believes 3D sensors will enable new applications such as secured authentication or payment

Digitimes downgrades 5G smartphone forecast to 22 mln units in Q2

Taking into account the latest impact from the coronavirus epidemic, Digitimes Research has downgraded its 5G smartphone shipment forecast for the second quarter and full year 2020. It now sees 5G handset shipments in China down 26.6 percent to 22 million units for Q2, from its pre-epidemic forecast of 30 million units. Still, if the outbreak can be gradually contained starting from Q2, China will yet be the biggest market for 5G handset shipments this year.

Qualcomm has presented new chips to bring 5G services to a wider market in 2020.
