Redbox Instant by Verizon announces pricing, studio deals
US online video service Redbox Instant by Verizon has unveiled further details of its launch later this month. Priced at USD 8 a month, the service will offer unlimited streaming of films, including titles from premium network Epix, with four on-night credits a month for the latest DVD releases at Redbox kiosks. For USD 9 a month, customers will be able to rent Blu-ray Disc at the kiosks. Customers will also be able to use Redbox Instant by Verizon without a subscription, selecting new releases for purchase, rental or reserve and pick them up at Redbox kiosks. The agreement with Epix gives Redbox Instant customers access to films from Epix studio partners Paramount Pictures, Lionsgate and MGM. Licensing deals were also reached with NBC Universal, Relativity, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment and Warner Bros Home Entertainment. Subscription and transactional studio content will be delivered by multiplatform video services provider Avail TVN. At launch Redbox Instant will be available online and through home entertainment, tablet and mobile devices including Android, iOS, Samsung Blu-ray players and TVs with SmartHub, LG Smart TV and Blu-ray players and Google TV. More devices will be announced in the coming months.
