Reliance Jio passes 50 mln subscribers in first 83 days

Indian operator Reliance Jio Infocomm has announced it has passed the milestone of 50 million subscribers in just 83 days from the launch of its mobile services on 5 September 2016. The operator says its average rate of customer addition stood at 600,000 subscribers per day in the period.

Jio has implemented the e-KYC based SIM activation option across 200,000 outlets in India, thereby allowing activation of SIM to get completed in under 5 minutes. More than 95 percent of the activations are being done via the eKYC paperless system. The company is in the process of doubling the network, to 400,000 digitally-enabled outlets by March 2017.

Jio also offers the Home Delivery of Jio SIMs, so that enterprise and high-end customers can get a Jio SIM home-delivered and activation in 5 minutes through eKYC. This feature is being progressively rolled out across India through MyJio application and will be available in top 100 cities by 31 December, the operator said.
