Samsung Electronics unveiled its new One UI Watch interface during Mobile World Congress 2021 (MWC21), and confirmed the system will be available for its upcoming Galaxy Watch. The plans for a new wearables platform built with Google were first announced last month during the Google I/O forum. The first watch is expected to debut at the Samsung Unpacked event later this summer.
Samsung said that the One UI Watch, together with the new unified platform, will create an “entirely new Galaxy Watch experience.” For example, once customers install watch-compatible apps on their smartphone, these will be swiftly downloaded onto the smartwatch. If they have customised the clock app on their phone to show the time in different cities around the globe, this will also be automatically reflected on the watch. Furthermore, blocked calls and messages from the watch will be blocked on the smartphone as well.
The unified platform will also open up new features and integrations, with popular third-party apps available to download from Google Play directly on the Galaxy Watch. The hardware should provide a longer battery life, with faster performance, Samsung said. The company also will introduce an improved watch face design tool, making it easier for designers to create new watch faces.
