South Korea's LTE base nears 50% of mobile base
The LTE subscriber base makes up almost 50 percent of South Korea's mobile user base. The LTE base stood at 27.35 million while the total mobile base stood at 54.4 million, the JoongAng Daily writes citing operator data. The Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning, which has yet to issue November data, puts the LTE base at 26.59 million in October, or 48.9 percent of the total mobile base. The three mobile operators - SK Telecom, KT and LG U+ - add around 700,000 to 900,000 new LTE subscribers each month.

SK Telecom to launch T-phone smartphone platform

Korean mobile carrier SK Telecom will launch a new smartphone platform next month called "T-phone". The new platform will make finding phone numbers easier and will also block spam calls. SK Telecom to share LTE expertise with China Telecom

Korean mobile operator SK Telecom has agreed to share LTE expertise with China Telecom. SK Telecom will support China Telecom in establishing its network in Shanghai by sharing technologies and expertise, Yonhap reports. KT tests LTE-A services in Gangnam

South Korean telecommunications provider KT is testing LTE-A services in some areas of Gangnam, in southern Seoul. KT claims its service provides downloads of up to 220 Mbps, the JoongAng Daily writes. The company also said it has developed a technology that provides services at speeds of up to 300 Mbps.

South Korean mobile operator SK Telecom has agreed to launch an automatic international LTE roaming service with China Mobile, as well as other LTE services, reports Yonhap News Agency. South Korean operator SK Telecom is planning to next year deploy its LTE-A network across the country. The operator demonstrated the upgraded LTE-A service that offers speeds of up to 225 Mbps by aggregating 20 MHz bandwidth in 1.8G Hz band and 10 MHz bandwidth in 800 MHz spectrum bands. South Korean telecommunications provider SK Telecom has over 1 million LTE-Advanced subscribers, Mobile World Live reports citing a company representative. SK Telecom has a total of 12.4 million LTE subscribers, or 46 percent of its mobile base. SK Telecom introduced the LTE-Advanced mobile network on 26 June.
