Telecom Italia creates new operations department

Telecom Italia has announced the creation of an Operations Department to guarantee optimal management of the company’s technological and operations processes, with a view to eventual integration. The department will be headed by Giuseppe Roberto Opilio, who will report directly to Telecom Italia’s CEO Marco Patuano. In addition, the company’s Caring Services division, which handles customer care activities, and its Chief Information Office function, renamed Information Technology, are to be reassigned to the new Operations Department.

After the restructuring process is complete, the Operations Department will ensure oversight of Open Access, Caring Services, Network, Engineering & TILab, Information Technology, Planning & Operations Evolutions, Global Advisory Services and Tower.

Telecom Italia also announced that Stefano Ciurli will manage the company’s National Wholesale Services department while Alessandro Talotta has been appointed CEO of TI Sparkle, Telecom Italia's international wholesale and retail business arm. Current TI Sparkle CEO Elisabetta Ripa will take a new role inside the Telecom Italia Group. Last month unnamed sources cited by Bloomberg suggested Ripa may be named new CEO of Telecom Argentina to oversee its sale to US-backed investment fund Fintech.
