Telefonica builds 5G network at Mercedes-Benz plant
Telefonica Germany said that it is cooperating with Mercedes-Benz to put in place a 5G mobile network for the production of vehicles at the carmaker's Factory 56 plant in Sindelfingen. Telefonica and Ericsson, the other partner in the project, will install the 5G network for a production space of more than 20,000 m2. Mercedes-Benz will operate the network. 

The 5G mobile communications will be used for the first time in running production, the company said in a statement. Factory 56 has been equipped with several 5G small-cell indoor antennas and a central 5G hub. The network will allow Mercedes-Benz to optimize existing production processes in its plant, supporting quick processing of large amounts of data.

Mercedes Benz has started to operate production plant 56 in Sindelfingen, in the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg, connected by a 5G network built by Telefonica Germany in partnership with Ericsson. The network connects machines and systems in real time and will support automobile production in the future. The 5G mobile communications enable a completely digital factory with networked logistics processes.
