Telenor creates smart buildings subsidiary Bldng.ai

Telenor has announced the creation of a smart buildings subsidiary called Bldng.ai. It aims to become the largest provider in the sector in Norway, before targeting Nordic region leadership. It is inviting industrial partners to join it in its endeavours.

Bldng.ai offers software, physical infrastructure such as sensors, related service and advice, and a network of sales and VAS partners. It is led by Steffan Phillip Thorvaldsen, who is already responsible for smart buildings at Telenor. He will manage a staff of nine specialists.

The new subsidiary’s platform provides property owners and tenants with information gleaned from sensors on their use of their building. This enables efficient use of space and better environmental practice.

Telenor said smart technology can keep track of how many people are at work in a building, their location, which rooms are being used, and what the air quality is like.  Thorvaldsen said that currently, the construction and real estate sectors use 40 percent of the world’s resources and generate almost as much of emissions.

The Bldng.ai platform is suitable for any occupant, owner or manager of a building of any size, including church and office space. An application can control building facilities and amenities, for example by identifying an empty meeting room.

Telenor believes the smart buildings sector has great potential and it has experience of implement smart buildings services at the bank DNB. It is inviting industrial partners to join it in its endeavours.
