TikTok users win court ruling against US government ban

TikTok has won another court ruling against the US government's attempt to ban the app in the US. A federal judge in Pennsylvania issued an injunction that blocked the restrictions that would have otherwise stopped TikTok from operating in the US on 12 November, TechCrunch reports. The lawsuit was brought by a group of TikTok creators who use the app to interact with millions of followers.

At the end of September, a judge in Washington, DC blocked the government ban that would have removed the app from being listed in US app stores run by Apple and Google. However, that ruling did not stop the 12 November ban that would have blocked companies from providing internet hosting services to TikTok in the US.

The Trump administration has said the TikTok app and its Chinese parent company ByteDance are a national security threat. The latest ruling said this threat appeared to be only hypothetical and was not shown to be enough to outweigh the public interest of maintaining the app's availability.

TikTok welcomed the support from its users.
