German cable operator Unitymedia has kicked off the switch to a full-digital service on its network, with a ceremony at the Anga Com conference in Cologne. Starting 01 June, the company will switch off the last analogue services in North Rhine-Westphalia, Hesse and Baden-Wuerttemberg in the coming month. It will be the first German cable operator to go all-digital.
The company started piloting the switch-off in some cities last year and said customers had responded well to its information campaign. Only a few hundred thousand analogue-only customers remain.
The south of Baden-Wuerttemberg will be the first to lose the analogue signal from 01 June, followed by the north of the state from 06 June. Hesse will be next to switch from 13 June, followed by 20 June for the south of NRW and 27 June for the north of NRW.
Unitymedia will continue to spread the word with a tour of 30 cities next month.
