
Digital advertising revenues in the US increased 21 percent year on year to a record high of USD 88.0 billion, according an IAB report prepared by PwC US. The result is the first time digital ad revenues have overtaken television (broadcast and cable combined). Mobile captured 57 percent of the digital ad total, rising 36 percent from USD 36.6 billion in 2016 to USD 49.9 billion in 2017, with digital video, including mobile and desktop, rising 33 percent to USD 11.9 billion. On mobile devices, video revenue surged by 54 percent to USD 6.2 billion, representing the first time that mobile video revenues have surpassed desktop video, said the report.
Total social media advertising, including mobile and desktop, brought in revenues of USD 22.2 billion 2017, up 36 percent over USD 16.3 billion in 2016. Total digital audio advertising rose 39 percent to USD 1.6 billion from USD 1.1 billion in 2016 while search revenues reached USD 40.6 billion in 2017, up 18 percent year on year.
