Verizon to give extra 15 GB to all mobile customers during virus outbreak
Verizon said that in addition to waiving overage charges and late fees during the coronavirus outbreak, it will give 15 GB of extra 4G data for mobile and small business customers. The deal will be automatic and run from 25 March to 30 April. Customers will also get 15 GB of 4G hotspot data added to their plan. Another 15 GB will be added for consumer prepaid and consumer and small business postpaid metered customers, for use as standalone or shared data, for use with the smartphone, hotspot or other connected device. Standalone metered and unlimited Jetpack plans will also get an extra 15 GB of extra 4G data. 

For low-income households, the company will waive internet and voice service charges for current Lifeline customers for two months. There will also be a discount programme on Fios broadband plans from 3 April. Customers will be able to select any Verizon Fios speed in the Mix & Max plans and get a USD 20 monthly discount. They will also get Disney+ free for one year and the first two months of their router rental charge waived. Verizon said this means that Fios Home Internet 200/200 Mbps will cost USD 19.99 per month. The 400/400 Mbps service will cost USD 39.99 per month, and the Gigabit deal USD 59.99 per month (including Fios router). Customers will still qualify for promotions aimed at new Fios Home Internet subscribers.

Finally, consumer and small business Fios and DSL broadband internet plans will have no data caps.

Verizon said it will provide nurses and teachers with the same discount it gives to military and first responders. Frontline workers will be able to get up to USD 40 off when they combine Verizon unlimited mobile and Fios internet plans. The new discounts will be available to eligible new and existing Verizon customers on Mix & Match mobile unlimited plans from 23 April and on Mix & Match Fios internet plans from 7 May 7.

Verizon deployed a new tool to serve residential and small business customers who need repairs for their wireline voice, data or video services. This new tool is a virtual assistant, video chat app, and self-service portal that enables technicians to assist customers without entering residences or premises. Thousands of technicians are using the tool and resolved 90 percent of repair requests when the tool has been used.

US cable operators RCN, Grande Communications and Wave Broadband announced plans to help bring internet connectivity to residential customers who've been affected by Covid-19. They will offer free internet and Wi-Fi for 60 days to all qualifying low-income households, especially students in low-income households who do not already subscribe to their internet service and who enroll in the Internet First program.

Verizon promises extra compensation for field staff

Verizon announced that it's immediately implementing a "significantly enhanced compensation plan" for the company's employees still active in the field during the Covid-19 outbreak. These mission-critical employees are unable to work remotely as they fulfill and repair broadband orders and connection issues, maintain networks and offer products to customers in person when deemed essential.

AT&T is offering its mobile customers on unlimited plans another 15 GB a month in hotspot data for the period 02 April to 13 May. This is expected to help them stay connected during the Covid-19 crisis.

AT&T's prepaid brand Cricket Wireless is offering from 27 March a new limited-time plan for USD 15 per month. The plan comes with 2GB of data and unlimited calls and texts, matching an offer introduced two days earlier by T-Mobile US. The plan is available to new and existing customers with no activation fee.
