ViacomCBS acquires FTA channel Chilevision from WarnerMedia

ViacomCBS Networks International (VCNI) has confirmed the acquisition of Chilean free-to-air TV channel Chilevision from WarnerMedia (AT&T) for an undisclosed sum. The move will serve to boost VCNI’s streaming business to meet increasing demand for Spanish language content across platforms including the recently-launched Paramount+ and Pluto TV, said the company in a statement, adding that the buy will be financed by existing cash balances.

Chilevision attracted around 24 percent of the country’s FTA viewing share in 2020, and its library spans sports, entertainment and news. It also has significant production capabilities, said VCNI, which intends to create an aligned commercial, content and distribution strategy for its Latin America portfolio.

VCNI acquired Argentina’s Telefe from Telefonica for USD 345 million back in 2016 and it also operates numerous other pay-TV channels in Latin America including Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, Paramount Network, MTV and VH1, among others.

The divestment strategy also includes Telefe, an Argentinian free-to-air channel acquired by ViacomCBS (as Paramount Global was called) back in 2016, said the report, without providing further details.

Chilevision lands Paris 2024 FTA rights

Chilean free-to-air TV channel Chilevision, owned by ViacomCBS, has acquired exclusive FTA rights in the country to air the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The agreement with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) includes around 200 hours of FTA coverage plus simulcast coverage on the FAST (free ad-supported streaming television) Pluto TV and Paramount's other digital platforms.

Pluto TV launches on Xbox consoles and Windows PCs

ViacomCBS Networks announced that its free streaming service Pluto TV is now available on Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, and on PCs with Windows 10 or Windows 11 in certain territories. Users can access the entire library of VoD content and live channels directly from the Pluto TV app in Italy, the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Latin America. The service will also be rolled out to Spain, France and Nordic countries in the coming months.

Paramount+ to air Premier League in Latin America

ViacomCBS Networks said it has reached a deal with the Premier League to air live matches from the top-tier English football league on its Paramount+ platform in Mexico, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama on an exclusive basis. Chilean streaming service Zapping to air World Cup qualifiers

Chilean subscription video on demand service Zapping has reached an agreement to broadcast all the FIFA World Cup qualifying matches played by the national team, reports NexTVNews LatAm. The OTT platform beat ViacomCBS FTA channel Chilevision to acquire the rights to air a total of 10 games played by the Chilean national team from June until March 2022. Pluto TV LatAm debuts 6 more channels

ViacomCBS has announced the release of another six channels to its streaming platform Pluto TV in Latin America. Starting 04 May, the service will be debuting three new signals for Spanish-speaking countries and three channels for Brazil. Viewers in 17 Spanish-speaking countries will be able to access Pluto TV Concerts by Stingray (Channel 905), Pluto TV Karaoke by Stingray (Channel 906) and Sin tetas no hay paraiso (Channel 130) showing the Spanish series of the same name.
