Viaplay will be 'very affordable' in the Netherlands - programme head

Viaplay, the streaming service of Nordic Entertainment Group (NENT), should be ”very affordable” in the Netherlands, Viaplay programme head Filippa Wallestam told Algemeen Dagblad. The streaming service charges a relatively high price in Scandinavia, at EUR 32 per month in Norway for example, but should be cheaper in the Netherlands.

Viaplay presented itself to the Dutch market earlier this year, removing a number of broadcasting rights for popular sports from other Dutch parties. It acquired the broadcasting rights for Formula 1, Premier League (both formerly with Ziggo Sport), PDC Darts (previously on RTL7) and Bundesliga (formerly with ESPN).

Wallestam assures, however, that Viaplay will not become a “sports service” only but a more complete player: "See the live sports matches as an entrance ticket to the rest of our offer. We also want to make Dutch-language shows, series and documentaries ourselves," she said.

Wallestam said Viaplay is in talks with Dutch television producers about its development. The NENT program head wants to deliver at least two Dutch-produced reality shows, two drama series and one documentary by 2023.
