The system, tested on the A9 motorway at Allershausen, uses mobile radio technology to enable direct and non-delayed information exchange between vehicles. The cars can share information on speed, position and lane changes directly to all vehicles within a radius of 320 metres in order to optimise traffic flow and reduce accidents.
Vodafone installed a mobile radio network for data transmission onto the A9 test track, while Huawei created the mobile radio modules and communications technology within the base station. Bosch integrated the radio modules and software into the vehicles.
The test sought to establish whether the system could function as a real-time warning system when changing lanes on the motorway. The companies plan to hold further track tests to try out other scenarios and functions.
