Voo owner confirms divestment plans

The Belgian public holding company Enodia, previously known as Publifin, has decided to sell off its commercial activities, holding on only to its operations with a public interest. Enodia and its main subsidiary Nethys, which controls cable operator Voo, confirmed the plans with the responsible minister for local affairs in Wallonia, Valerie de Bue, reports the paper La Libre Belgique.

The board of directors of Enodia agreed to divide the activities of Nethys into two divisions, according to a statement from the company. One will include all its activities with a public interest, which will remain fully owned by state shareholders, and the other including its commercial activities. The aim is to reduce its stake in the commercial activities so that it is no longer the majority shareholder, while still preserving employment and the public interest.

Voo is the largest part of Nethys' commercial activities and has already attracted takeover interest. Both Telenet and Orange Belgium said last year they would be interested in acquiring the company.
