WhatsApp passes milestone of 2 billion users worldwide

WhatsApp announced it's passed the milestone of 2 billion users worldwide. The messaging app owned by Facebook has grown from 1.5 billion users in 2018 and the 1 billion mark in 2016.

In a blog post on the news, the company underlined its continued to commitment to private communications, supported by the use of end-to-end encryption. "Strong encryption is a necessity in modern life," the company said. "We will not compromise on security because that would make people less safe."

Facebook reported last month that its social network had 2.5 billion monthly active users in Q4 2019. Its family of apps, including Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp, had together a total of 2.26 billion users each day on average and around 2.89 billion users each month.
