Lenovo-backed smartphone manufacturer ZUK has announced that it will be launching an international version of its ZUK Z1 handset with Cyanogen OS 12.1 in September at a retail price of USD 299. ZUK launched the Chinese version of the Z1 on 18 August, with the company claiming over 2 million pre-orders within one week. The Chinese version comes with its own "ZUI" customised interface on top of Android 5.1.1 OS. However, the international version will come preloaded with a customised version of Cyanogen OS 12.1, as well as features including a Snapdragon 801 processor, 3 GB of RAM, 64 GB of storage, a 4,100 mAh battery, a 13-megapixel rear camera and a USB 3.0 Type-C port.
Cyanogen recently announced that it had passed 50 million users worldwide, up from around 10 million a year ago, and can now be regarded as the third largest mobile OS, more than Windows Phone and BlackBerry combined.
