Apple avoids changes to App Store with stay of Epic Games court order

Apple has secured a last-minute injunction suspending required changes in its App Store in its case against Epic Games. The appeal granted by the Ninth Circuit court in California means Apple will not have to implement the changes until its full appeal is heard, 9to5Mac reports.

The original ruling from Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers in September required that Apple adjust its App Store guidelines to allow developers to link to third-party payment options. The company was expected to comply by 09 December and an initial appeal in November for an injunction failed.

In its request for a delay, Apple had argued that it would be "exceedingly complicated" to make the ordered changes to the App Store by the December deadline. Apple’s attorney argued that it would "take months to figure out the engineering, economic, business, and other issues" related to such changes.

The court agreed that there were still outstanding questions about the merits of the case and agreed to a stay of the original order. The stay will remain in effect until a final ruling in the case

The delay does not impact the other part of Judge Rogers ruling, which allows developers to communicate with users about alternative payment solutions outside of their applications.
