Apple lodges appeal in Epic Games lawsuit

Apple has lodged an appeal in the lawsuit brought by Epic Games in an effort to prevent the introduction of third-party payment methods in the App Store. The move follows a  decision issued last month in which a California district court ruled that Apple was engaged in unfair competition by limiting payments to its own system, resulting in an injunction due to take effect within 90 days requiring Apple to allow links in apps to alternative payment systems.

However, according to CNBC, Apple requested a stay on the injunction that could stop it from taking effect until all of the appeals in the case are finalised, a process that could take years. A decision on Apple’s appeal will be issued by a judge in November, with the injunction that would allow developers to circumvent App Store fees of 15 percent to 30 percent currently scheduled to go into effect on 09 December.

Epic Games likewise announced that it would appeal the September ruling, which rejected Epic's claim that Apple is operating a monopoly with its iOS app store and ordered the Fortnite maker to pay Apple commission worth nearly USD 3.7 million on the back revenue.
