China Mobile tops 114 million 5G subscribers in September
China Mobile ended September with 946 million mobile customers. Of these, 770 million were 4G customers and 114 million were 5G package users, the company also said. China Mobile’s profit slightly declined by 0.3 percent year-on-year to CNY 81.6 billion for the first three quarters of 2020. Margin of profit attributable to equity shareholders was 14.2 percent. EBITDA also fell 3.8 percent year-on-year to CNY 216.9 billion. 

During the first three quarters of the year, handset data traffic jumps 35 percent year-on-year to 65.3 billion GB with handset data DOU reaching 9.1GB. Total voice usage fell 7.1 percent year-on-year to 2.25 trillion minutes, while total SMS usage rose by 15.5 percent year-on-year to 713.0 billion messages.

Mobile ARPU fell 2.6 percent year-on-year to CNY 48.9 for the first three quarters of the year. At 30 September, the Group’s total number of wireline broadband customers was 204 million, which represents a net increase of 17.17 million for the first three quarters of the year. Wireline broadband ARPU reached CNY 32.4 in the period.

The group’s operating revenue rose 1.4 percent year-on-year to CNY 574.4 billion for the first three quarters of 2020. Of which, revenue from telecommunications services grew by 2.5 percent year-on-year to CNY 525.7 billion whereas that from the sales of products and others declined by 9.2 percent year-on-year to CNY 48.7 billion.

China has announced it has built nearly 700,000 5G base stations this year, exceeding its original target of 500,000, South China Morning Post reports. China Unicom's 9-month revenue grows 4.4%, loses 9 mln mobile subscribers

China Unicom posted total service revenue of CNY 207.34 billion for the first nine months of 2020, which represents an increase of 4.4 percent year-on-year. Mobile service revenue reached CNY 116.53 billion, down by 1 percent year-on-year. The rate of decline substantially narrowed as compared to the full year of 2019, the company said. In the third quarter of 2020, mobile service revenue grew by 2.5 percent year-on-year.

China Telecom's 9-month profit up nearly 2%, adds 60 mln 5G customers

China Telecom posted operating revenues of CNY 292.61 billion for the first nine months of 2020, which represents an increase of 3.5 percent year-on-year. Service revenues amounted to CNY 280.86 billion, up 3.5 percent, while EBITDA reached CNY 92.21 billion, slightly increasing by 0.3 percent from the first nine months of 2019. EBITDA margin stood at 32.8 percent. Profit reached CNY 18.70 billion in the first nine months of 2020, which represents a growth of 1.7 percent over the same period of 2019.

China Telecom adds 12 million 5G subscribers in Q1

China Telecom saw its operating revenues reach CNY 94.79 billion in the first quarter of 2020, of which service revenues were CNY 92.13 billion, representing an increase of 0.7 percent year-on-year. First-quarter EBITDA was CNY 30.16 billion, down 0.3 percent compared to the first three months of 2019. EBITDA margin was 32.7 percent. Profit topped CNY 5.82 billion, down 2.2 percent year-on-year.

China Mobile Q1 customer numbers, revenues, profit fall amid virus pandemic

China said it had 946 million customers at the end of the first quarter, less than the 950 million recorded at the end of December. Of the total, 752 million customers used 4G services, off from 758 million, and 191 used wireline broadband, up from 187 million. 5G package customers lifted to 31.7 million from 2.55 million.

Shipments for 5G phones in China reached 485,000 units in the third quarter, according to the latest study from IDC, which said vendors raced to ship devices ahead of the launch of commercial 5G services at the end of October. Most units shipped were flagship devices priced over USD 700 but lower price devices were also present.

China Mobile reported operating revenue for the first nine months of 2019 down 0.2 percent year-on-year to CNY 566.7 billion. Telecom service revenue fell 1 percent, hurt by the end to domestic roaming charges last year and pressure on data prices. EBITDA was still up 5.3 percent to CNY 225.5 billion, helped by the new IFRS 16 accounting rules, while net profit fell 13.9 percent to CNY 81.8 billion, impacted by business transformation costs.
