Comcast launches subscription streaming video service

US cable operator Comcast announced a new subscription streaming video service called Xfinity Streampix. The company has signed licensing agreements for TV series and films from Disney-ABC Television Group, NBCUniversal, Sony Pictures, Warner Bros. Digital Distribution and Cookie Jar Entertainment, and will start offering the service this week to its TV customers. Streampix will be included free in the operator's most expensive triple- and double-play packages and other TV customers can order it for USD 4.99 per month. The service offers streaming to the TV, PC and mobile devices, with other platforms including Android phones and the Xbox360 to be added later this year. Streampix adds to Comcast's existing 'TV Everywhere' services Xfinity On Demand, XfinityTV.com and the Xfinity TV app.
