An Amsterdam court has ruled against HTC, saying it unlawfully used Nokia's microphone technology, Nu.nl reported. It is not yet clear what the consequences of the ruling will be for HTC, such as for example, a possible ban of the HTC One which includes the technology. The microphones in the device were supplied by STMicroelectronics, but Nokia claims that the technology used was developed exclusively for its Lumia smartphones.
HTC told Engadget that it was disappointed with the court decision but that it would start looking for alternatives to the technology used for the microphones.
Nokia also won in its energy-saving patent suit against HTC in Germany. The case finished in mid-March after starting in May 2012. Nokia said HTC had been making unlawful use of its technology with Qualcomm processors. Around 30 patent lawsuits are still pending, pitting Nokia against HTC in the US, the UK and Germany.
