HTC reduces losses in Q2, sales up 11% vs Q1

HTC narrowed its losses in the second quarter thanks to a continued reduction in costs. The net loss reduced to TWD 2.0 billion from TWD 3.1 billion a year ago, and the operating loss narrowed to TWD 2.2 billion from TWD 4.2 billion. 

Revenues fell 15 percent year-on-year but rose 11 percent from the first quarter to TWD 16.1 billion. HTC said sequential growth came from the launch of its new flagship phone, the U11, in May. It also benefited from a 6.5 percent savings in operating costs in the quarter. 

Operating cash flow was a negative TWD 13.9 billion in Q2. HTC ended the period with TWD 31.0 billion in cash, down from 33.1 billion in March.

Google has agreed to take over staff and assets of smartphone maker HTC for USD 1.1 billion. Google said the takeover will strengthen its hardware business, including the Pixel smartphones on which HTC already cooperates. HTC will continue to make smartphones and VR devices under its own brand.

Smartphone maker HTC reported a sharp deterioration in sales in August, with revenues down 54 percent year-on-year to TWD 3.00 billion. That compares to an annual fall of just 2 percent in July, to TWD 6.19 billion, and growth of over 8 percent in June to TWD 6.89 billion.

After double-digit declines in April and May, the smartphone maker returned to annual sales growth in June, with an 8.4 percent increase to TWD 6.891 billion. HTC introduces Vive Tracker for full-body VR

HTC is expanding its Vive VR ecosystem with the launch of the Vive Tracker, to incorporate other objects in the VR experience, as well as the Vive Deluxe Audio Strap for its headset. The Vive Tracker, built to empower developers and accessory makers to make VR more immersive, will be available on 27 March for developer purchase through Vive.com. HTC narrows Q4 loss on sharp fall in costs, lower sales

HTC said revenues for its fourth quarter reached TWS 22.2 billion, flat from the previous quarter and down from TWD 25.7 billion a year earlier. The net loss of TWD 3.1 billion or TWD 3.77 per share widened versus TWD 1.8 billion in Q3 but was down from TWD 3.4 billion a year earlier. HTC said sales in the quarter were robust, with costs reduced by 34 percent.

He was previously president of HTC Americas and was promoted to global executive VP in January to help develop and manage strategic partnerships.
