Huawei delays launch of foldable smartphone Mate X

Huawei has pushed forrward the release data of its Mate X foldable smartphone, presented at Barcelona’s Mobile World Congress earlier this year, to September from June, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing senior VP Vincent Peng at the journal’s D.Live tech conference in Hong Kong. “We’re doing a lot of tests,” Peng said, adding that the company will release the device “as early as we can.”

The device will probably first launch in China and Europe, and then to other markets with 5G networks, Peng said. The executive said supply-chain issues were not behind the delay. He added however that the company was still in talks about launching the Mate X with a license from Google.

Samsung, which also unveiled a foldable smartphone earlier this year, also delayed its formal launch.

Huawei also canceled the launch of a new laptop and paused production in its PC business because of the restrictions on buying US components.
