Iliad Italia has unveiled its inaugural fixed broadband offer around three and half years after launching its first mobile plan. The offering, dubbed Iliadbox, is available at a price of EUR 23.99 a month or EUR 15.99 to mobile subscribers, complete with a lifetime price guarantee and no permanence clauses or hidden costs.
During the presentation of the new offering, CEO Benedetto Levi said the operator was determined to respond to customer requests for fibre connections that matched the transparency and quality of Iliad’s mobile offer. Iliadbox is marketed as offering download speeds of “up to 5 Gbps” and upload speeds of 700 Mbps. It is initially available to 7.4 million Italian households.
Around 6 million of those homes will be able to access the highest FTTH speeds (up to 2.5 Gbps on 1 Ethernet port, up to 1 Gbps on 2 Ethernet ports, up to 0.5 Gbps via Wi-Fi), with the remaining 1.4 million limited to 1 Gbps download and 300 Mbps upload speeds. A one-off installation cost of EUR 39.99 is also payable.
The plan also comes with unlimited calls to national fixed and mobile numbers plus landlines in over 60 countries. In addition, subscribers can choose to sign up to the company’s ‘Iliad Wi-Fi Extender’ service for an extra EUR 1.99 a month to ensure the wireless network covers the entire home. Iliadbox is already available via the operator’s online store and more than 1,500 ‘Simbox’ card dispensers throughout the country.
Iliad passed the milestone of 8 million mobile customers in Italy in the third quarter of 2021, equivalent to a 10.5 percent share of the market. The operator struck wholesale network access deals with Open Fiber in July 2020 and FiberCop in August 2021 ahead of its fixed broadband launch.
According to recent reports, the French group and Vodafone are currently in talks over a potential merger of their respective Italian businesses with a view to better competing in an increasingly aggressive marketplace.
