Lenovo has introduced at the IFA show two new Android tablets designed to work also as smart home hubs. In addition to the Yoga Smart Tab and the Lenovo Smart Tab M8, the company launched a new Lenovo Smart Display with smaller 7-inch display.
Both the new tablets come with the Google Assistant and its new Ambient mode. This is a new way to use the lock screen to provide important notifications and reminders, start a playlist and control smart home devices. When not in use, the screen turns into a personal digital photo frame linked to the user's Google Photos account. Ambient Mode will be available on the Smart Tab M8 HD when placed in its smart charging station and on the Yoga Smart Tab when put on its pop-out kickstand.
The Yoga Smart Tab offers a 10.1-inch FHD IPS display, matte aluminium body and dual JBL speakers. Thanks to the built-in kick-stand, users can tilt, stand, hold or hang the tablet to view it as they wish. It will launch this month starting at EUR 299.
The Smart Tab M8 comes with an 8-inch HD screen, quad-core 2.0 GHz processor, facial recognition and dual-band Wi-Fi. It's designed as a tablet for the whole household to use. The accompanying charging dock allows it to be used as a smart home hub with hands-free far-field voice recognition through high-performance dual MEMS microphones. Pricing starts at EUR 149, with sales to begin in October.
The new Lenovo Smart Display 7 offers a smaller display as well as thinner bezels and an ambient light sensor for better photos. In response to customer feedback, Lenovo added front-facing left and right speakers for stereo separation, housed in a larger chamber to deliver more audio resonance. The Lenovo Smart Display 7 also features a TrueBlock Privacy Shutter and a physical mute button, for added privacy. It will launch in October starting at EUR 129.
