Masmovil to use Vantage Towers network to boost 5G rollout

Spanish telecommunications provider Masmovil, the country’s fourth largest network operator, has reached an agreement with Vantage Towers, the infrastructure operator spun off from Vodafone, to boost coverage of its 5G network for customers located in both urban and rural areas. Under the deal, Masmovil simply said it will use the full range of infrastructure owned by Vantage Towers to accelerate the deployment of its 5G service and reach more geographic areas all over Spain.

Earlier this month the operator announced that it had extended the coverage of its 5G network for customers of its main mobile brand Yoigo to a total of 435 towns and cities, up from 15 at launch and equivalent to 44 percent of the country’s population. Masmovil finally decided not to take part in this week’s auction of 700 MHz band frequencies and will rely on the 80MHz of frequencies it owns in the 3.5 GHz band across 39 provinces.

In October 2019, the operator reached a deal with Orange to share 5G networks in up to 4,500 locations covering around 35 percent of the Spanish population and including the country’s 40 largest cities.
