Spanish telecommunications group Masmovil said it has reached 3 million fixed broadband customers around 5 years after launching the service and just 9 months after passing the 2 million milestone. The operator ended 2016 with 122,000 fixed broadband clients under its Masmovil brand, subsequently launching services under its Yoigo, Pepephone and Llamaya brands, among others, adding 382,000 customers in 2017, 487,000 in 2018 and 500,000 in both 2019 and 2020. It has now surpassed 3 million following its acquisition of Euskaltel, including the latter’s R, Telecable and Virgin Telco brands.
In a statement, Masmovil said 97 percent of its fixed broadband customers are now on “ultra-fast broadband”, with 1.2 million also contracting additional services, above all TV. The group's fibre footprint now covers some 26.4 million homes in Spain and its total fixed broadband customer base is fast approaching Vodafone’s figure of around 3.1 million and Orange’s 3.4 million.
