Mexico's telecommunications regulator IFT has approved the tender of a total of 41 blocks of spectrum in the 800MHz, 1.9GHz, 2.5GHz and AWS-3 bands later this year. In a statement, the watchdog said 39 blocks with different local coverage obligations will be tendered in the 800 MHz and 2.5 GHz bands while two blocks with national coverage will be offered in the AWS and 1.9 GHz bands. The IFT-10 auction will officially in the coming days in the Federation’s Official Gazette.
Interested bidders will be invited to register their interest before mid-June, with bids due starting on 27 September and the winners declared around 20 days after all bids have been received. With a view to reducing market concentration, an acquisition limit of 26.5 percent per operator will be applied during the tender, rising to 30 percent if a second tender is held on remaining spectrum.
Last October the regulator said it also planned to tender frequencies in the 3.4GHz band this year for the deployment of commercial 5G networks.
