More than half of US homes have multiple SVoD subscriptions - research

More than three quarters (78%) of all US homes have a subscription VoD (SVoD) service from Netflix, Amazon Prime and/or Hulu, up from 69 percent in 2018, according to the latest study from Leichtman Research.

More than half (55%) of US households have more than one SVoD service, up from 43 percent in 2018. Usage of SVoD services has also grown in recent years, with 40 percent of all US adults streaming an SVoD service daily, up from 30 percent in 2018. The most active streamers are younger users, with the 18-44 age group accounting for 63 percent of daily SVoD users. 

The research also shows that over half (55%) of those aged 18-44 stream an SVoD service daily, compared to 27 percent of those aged 45 and over. Just under one third (30%) with Netflix said their subscription is shared with others outside their household, compared to 23 percent with Hulu and 20 percent with Amazon Prime. Furthermore, 44 percent of US adults watch video on a mobile phone daily, up from 35 percent in 2018.
