Movistar first Mexican MNO to launch unlimited data plan
Movistar (Telefonica) has become the first Mexican network operator (MNO) to launch an unlimited data plan, following in the steps of MVNOs including Unefon and Virgin Mobile. The operator announced on its website that its new ‘Plan Ilimitado’ normally costs MXN 799 a month (around USD 39) but is available at a promotional rate of MXN 399 a month to the first 300,000 takers. It’s advertised as including unlimited mobile data in Mexico plus unlimited calls and SMS in Mexico, the US, Canada and Puerto Rico.

However, Xataka Mexico reports that under the plan’s fair use policy, download speeds will be reduced to 1 Mbps once a limit of 20 GB is reached and that data can’t be shared via the portable Wi-Fi hotspot option.
