Mozilla stops selling Firefox OS smartphones
Mozilla has announced plans to stop selling smartphones based on the Firefox operating system. The announcement was made at Mozilla’s developer event in Orlando, Mozlando, and confirmed to TechCrunch by Ari Jaaksi, Mozilla’s SVP of Connected Devices. In a statement, he said that Mozilla will "continue to experiment with the user experience across connected devices" but will "stop offering Firefox OS smartphones through carrier channels". The decision to discontinue the phones was due in part to the inability "to offer the best user experience possible", according to Jaaksi.

First announced in 2013, the Firefox OS focused on a web-based experience, rather than native apps for the low-cost smartphones. By the end of 2014, 14 smartphones based on Firefox OS were offered by 14 operators in 28 countries, mainly in Asia and Latin America.
