O2 becomes exclusive UK mobile network for Disney+

O2 UK has announced an agreement with Disney's Direct-to-Consumer & International division to be the exclusive UK mobile network distributor for the new Disney+ streaming service, which launches in the UK on 24 March.

The Disney+ service will be offered through O2 extras, which is available to new and upgrading O2 pay monthly customers on handset, tablet and SIM-only contracts. New and upgrading customers can get six months of Disney+ for free. Customers no ready to upgrade can add Disney+ to their current plan for an extra GBP 5.99 per month, and receive a GBP 2 per month discount off their bill.

Disney+ streaming service launches across Europe

Disney has confirmed the launch of the Disney+ streaming service in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Italy, Austria, Spain and Switzerland from 24 March. This will be followed by a launch in France on 07 April. The service costs EUR 6.99/GBP 5.99 per month, or EUR 69.99/GBP 59.99 per year.

Less than 4 months after launching, Disney+ has already persuaded half (50%) of US internet users with children under 10 in their household to subscribe to the service, according to the latest data from Ampere Analysis. The platform has also been successful in converting 18-24-year olds, with over four in 10 (41%) revealing that they can access Disney+.

Deutsche Telekom offers Disney+ six months for free, reduces price of Magenta tariffs

Deutsche Telekom announced that it will offer Disney+ six months free of charge for the customers of MagentaMobil, MagentaZuhause and MagentaTV. Customers will get an attractive offer from the seventh month as well. The subscription can be cancelled on a monthly basis. Users can use the Disney + app on their tablet, smartphone and on their SmartTV using the MagentaTV stick.

Telefonica to include Disney+ in all premium Fusion plans, launches new Cine package

The operator is also launching a revamped 'Cine' package on 04 April, which will now include Disney+ alongside other content. It will be available at the promotional price of EUR 10 for 6 months, rising to EUR 15 thereafter. Telefonica said Fusion customers will either have to subscribe to the premium packages or to the new Cine package to receive Disney+ and that they have 3 months in which to do so.

Vodafone Spain files complaint against Telefonica's Disney+ deal - report

Vodafone Spain has filed a complaint with markets and communications regulator CNMC about Telefonica's agreement to add the Disney+ SVOD to to the Movistar+ pay-TV offer in Spain, reports El Espanol. In the letter, Vodafone describes the deal as an example of "covert exclusivity" that flies in the face of Telefonica's position as dominant operator in the pay-TV market and makes it difficult for other operators to access Disney's content within the legal framework established by the CNMC.

UK mobile operators agree Shared Rural Network terms to boost 4G connectivity

The UK government announced that mobile network operators EE, O2, 3 UK and Vodafone will sign a GBP 1 billion deal on 09 March to improve mobile connectivity in rural areas. This confirms the initial agreement proposed last October for the four operators to cooperate on improving coverage in less populated areas.

Telefonica confirms agreement to add Disney+ to Movistar+ in Spain

Telefonica and the Walt Disney Company have confirmed a widely expected agreement to add the forthcoming Disney+ SVOD service to the Movistar+ pay-TV offer in Spain. The US company will be launching its service as a standalone platform in Spain on 24 March, and the deal with Telefonica follows similar carriage agreements reached with Telecom Italia, Sky in the UK and Ireland, and Canal Plus in France.

Telecom Italia inks deal to add Disney+ to TIMvision

Telecom Italia has announced a multi-year agreement with Disney to carry the US company's new Disney+ SVOD service on its TIMvision platform, confirming earlier reports. TIM said it will be the exclusive wholesale distributor of Disney+ in Italy through TIMvision and will bundle it with a range of fibre-based packages when the streaming platform launches on 24 March.
