Proximus narrows gap with Telenet in broadband market
Proximus and Telenet strengthened their duopoly on the Belgian fixed market in 2015. At the same time Proximus narrowed the gap with market leader Telenet in the Belgian consumer broadband market. According to the latest research by Telecompaper, Proximus increased its share of broadband connections by 1.9 percent points last year to 42.5 percent at year-end, while Telenet's share fell by 0.8 percent points over the same period to 43.2 percent of connections. Proximus also outperformed Telenet in the last quarter of 2015, adding nearly twice as many new subscribers.

Regular price increases helped Telenet maintain its lead in terms of consumer fixed revenues, with a total EUR 295 million in Q4 2015. It accounted for 43 percent of total market revenues. Proximus recorded EUR 280 million in revenue in Q4 and increased its revenue share on an annual basis to almost 40 percent. The two smaller cable operators, Voo and Numericable (now SFR) accounted together for 13 percent of the consumer fixed market.
