Qualcomm Snapdragon X55 modem-RF system selected by 30 OEMs for 5G

Qualcomm Technologies announced that its Snapdragon X55 5G Modem-RF System was selected by over 30 global original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) for commercial 5G fixed wireless access (FWA) customer-premises equipment (CPE) device launches starting in 2020. Those working with Qualcomm Technologies include the following OEMs and product providers: Arcadyan, Askey, AVM, Casa Systems, Compal, Cradlepoint, Fibocom, FIH, Franklin, Gemtek, Gongjin, Gosuncn Technology Group, Inseego, LG, Linksys, MeiG, Netgear, Nokia, Oppo, Panasonic Mobile Communications, Quanta, Quectel, Sagemcom, Samsung Electronics, Sharp, Sercomm, Sierra Wireless, Sunsea, Technicolor, Telit, Wewins, Wingtech, WNC, and ZTE.

The Snapdragon X55 5G Modem-RF System provides a fully integrated modem-to-antenna 5G platform, which is engineered to streamline product development for multiple mobile broadband product categories, including sub-6 GHz, mmWave and extended-range mmWave CPE devices. This platform is designed to provide OEMs with the technology functionalities they need to tackle wireless complexity while enabling them to offer a diverse product portfolio to their customers.

Qualcomm Technologies will showcase commercial CPE devices powered by the Snapdragon X55 5G Modem-RF System at the Qualcomm 5G Summit in Barcelona, 14-16 October.

Qualcomm unveils third-generation 5G modem for smartphones

Qualcomm has announced its third-generation 5G modem-to-antenna system for smartphones, the Snapdragon X60 5G Modem-RF System. The company said the device is the world's first 5G modem to support spectrum aggregation across all key 5G bands and combinations, including mmWave and sub-6 GHz using FDD and TDD. This will enable speeds of up to 7.5 Gbps down and 3 Gbps up.

Qualcomm Technologies, a wholly owned subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated, announced at its 5G Summit in Barcelona, Spain that it's developing what it calls the first cellular chip optimised and certified for Microsoft's Azure Sphere Internet of Things (IoT) operating system. Qualcomm Technologies' new Azure Sphere-certified chipset for IoT will include hardware-level security, come preconfigured with the Azure Sphere, and will automatically connect to Azure Sphere security cloud services.

Fastweb, Samsung get go ahead for fixed-wireless 5G trials

Italy's council of ministers has approved the project proposed by Fastweb and Samsung to carry out trials of '5G' Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) technology in some Italian cities, reports website Key4Biz.
