Qualcomm unveils Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 chip for budget laptops

Qualcomm announced the upcoming launch of the Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 compute platform, the second generation of the company’s entry-level platform for entry-level Windows PCs and Chromebooks. The chip is designed to upgrade the budget device experience with enhanced camera and audio capabilities, integrated LTE connectivity, AI acceleration, enterprise-grade security features and long-lasting battery life, said Qualcomm.

The processor is an 8nm Soc with a Snapdragon X15 LTE modem, a Kryo 468 CPU offering 2.55 GHz capacity and 10 percent higher system performance than competitive platforms, according to Qualcomm. It also comes with an up to 32-megapixel camera, Hexagon 692 DSP, Wi-Fi support, Bluetooth 5.0, the Spectra 255 ISP and Qualcomm’s Aqstic audio technologies. Qualcomm added that the SoC offers twice the battery life of most competing platforms, up to 19 or more hours of continuous use.

The first device based on Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 is expected to be commercially available this summer.
