Sky, Netflix announce new European partnership

Sky and Netflix have announced a new European partnership to bundle the full Netflix service into a new Sky subscription pack. Sky will create a new entertainment TV pack combining Sky and Netflix content side-by-side, and make this available to new and existing customers. 

Sky customers will be able to access Netflix content in the Sky Q menu, and existing Netflix customers will be able to migrate their account to the new Sky TV bundle or sign into the Netflix app with their existing account details. 

The partnership will see Netflix, and the new Sky TV pack, launch on Sky Q in the UK and Ireland in the coming year. It will expanded to Sky Q platforms in Germany, Austria and Italy thereafter.

Sky Germany FY revenues up 6%, sees customer growth in Q4

Sky Germany said its revenues in Germany and Austria rose 6 percent in the fiscal year through 30 June to GBP 2.02 billion on a constant currency basis, up from revenues of GBP 1.91 billion the previous year. Operating profit rose 7 percent to GBP 1.034 billion, and net earnings improved 17 percent to 47.5 pence per share. Netflix testing EUR 17 a month 'Ultra' tier in Europe

Netflix is testing a new higher tier of service called 'Ultra' in Europe, allowing subscribers to receive Ultra HD (UHD) video and audio streaming simultaneously on up to four devices, reports Italian website Tutto Android. The fourth tier is priced at EUR 16.99 a month and would join the company's three subscription plans Basic (EUR 7.99), Standard (EUR 10.99) and Premium (EUR 13.99).

Sky Germany announced that it will increase the number linear TV broadcasters available via its on-demand Sky Go app to over 100 by the end of June. Sky has also revised its offerings and price structure as part of the launch of Sky Q. The Sky Entertainment Package including Sky Q and other features now costs EUR 24.99 per month. Additional packages like Sky Bundesliga Football and Sky Cinema can be added for EUR 20 and EUR 15 per month, respectively, while the Sky Sport packages Sky HD/UHD cost EUR 10 per month each.
