Supreme Court declines industry appeal to void 2016 net neutrality ruling

The US Supreme Court has declined to hear a case brought by the telecom industry seeking to overturn a ruling that upheld the previous net neutrality rules, NPR reports. The industry had hoped to have the ruling quashed in order to avoid any continued legal precedent for the rules passed in 2015 under the Obama administration.

The FCC has already passed new net neutrality rules, overturning much of the previous regulations. The regulator was also in favour of voiding the previous decision by the DC Circuit Court in 2016, said Jessica Rosenworcel, a Democrat on the commission.

The case was brought by operators such as AT&T and CenturyLink as well as a number of industry groups, including the CTIA, USTelecom, NCTA and American Cable Association.
