Telefonica to cut workforce in Spain by 20%
Telefonica may cut its workforce in Spain by about 20 percent within the next three years. The statement was made by Guillermo Ansaldo, president of Telefonica de Espana, at Telefonica's Eighth Investor Conference in London. Telefonica, which currently employs around 30,000 people in Spain, faces a "difficult" macro-economic environment and "increased competitive pressure," the company said. A few months ago Telefonica started cutting 6 percent of its manager positions. This process has been already completed, El Economista reports, citing unnamed company sources.

Telefonica and other profitable Spanish companies will have to cover the costs of their early retirement schemes, so as to diminish the burden on the state budget, according to Spanish finance minister Elena Salgado. Telefonica to give EUR 450 mln shares to senior employees

Telefonica plans to give shares worth nearly EUR 450 million to its senior employees. The incentive plan would cover around 1,900 managers over five years, the company said in a filling sent to Spanish stock market regulator CNMV. The plan will be voted on at the next shareholders' meeting on 17 May. Telefonica to sell Spanish assets worth EUR 600 million

Telefonica plans to sell off Spanish assets worth about EUR 600 million, including real estate, the Wall Street Journal reports, citing Guillermo Ansaldo, chairman of Telefonica Espana. CMT increases Telefonica local loop rental fee

Spanish telecoms regulator CMT has increased the monthly fee that Telefonica charges alternative operators to rent a fully unbundled local loop. The fee will rise by 6.8 percent to EUR 8.32. CMT periodically reviews Telefonica's wholesale prices. The local loop rental fee was last revised in November 2008 when it was set at EUR 7.79. Telefonica targets 1-4% revenues growth to 2013

Telefonica targets a compound annaul growth rate of 1-4 percent in revenues over the period 2010 to 2013. The company gave the forecast at an analyst meeting in London.
