Telefonica unveils smart home security service

Telefonica has announced the imminent launch of a smart home security service for Movistar users in Spain. The company has joined forces with IoT network company Sigfox, insurer Securitas Direct and home alarm provider Verisure to develop ‘Movistar Verisure Hogar’, which Telefonica describes as the world’s first “quintuple-play” home security service. Movistar Verisure Hogar offers a 24-hour, 365-day immediate emergency response service, unauthorised home access control plus remote controlled video surveillance. Subscribers will be able to manage the service through an Android and iOS smartphone app with a remote video recording feature. The package comes with a central unit, a door sensor, an inhibition detector, a deterrent plate, a camera, plus two keyring-sized remote controls with an SOS button to trigger the emergency response service.

Telefonica is offering a free two-week trial of the service, which will be available exclusively for Movistar broadband customers from 17 June at a price of EUR 25 per month.
