Messaging app Telegram has submitted an appeal to the European Court of Human Rights against the blocking of the messenger by Russian state institutions. The company claims that the right to receive and disseminate information is restricted by the Russian authorities' actions, Tass news agency reported.
Telegram's lawyer Pavel Chikov said the case was filed in March, prior to Russia enforcing the ban. Telegram was blocked due to its refusal to hand over encryption keys for the messaging service to Russia state security.
The company's lawyers also intend to file a cassation appeal with the Moscow City Court and the Russian Supreme Court if needed. The Moscow court rejected the company's latest appeal on 14 June.
