Deutsche Telekom is preparing to launch a ‘super-vectoring’ pilot project in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate in May 2018, reported German daily Die Welt. Internal company documents show that Telekom is planning to upgrade 15.4 million households with super vectoring by the end of the year to deliver internet speeds up to 250 Mbps, wrote Die Welt. Prices for the company’s super vectoring tariffs have not yet been set, they noted.
Telekom had previously said it would only begin using ‘super vectoring’ to upgrade its copper wiring in the second half of 2018. But the company is under pressure from competitors like Vodafone and Unitymedia who already deliver speeds up to 200 Mbps and are beginning to roll out gigabit-speed connections this year, said Die Welt. As a result, Telekom is "no longer competitive in many places" in Germany under its previous goal of providing 80 percent of households with internet speeds of up to 50 Mbps.
