Telstra launches first Category 11 LTE device
Telstra, in collaboration with Netgear, Ericsson and Qualcomm Technologies, announced that it is bringing the world's first LTE Advanced Category 11 (Cat 11) device to its customers in Australia. The Telstra WiFi 4GX Advanced III Mobile Broadband Hotspot uses tri-band carrier aggregation technology to support speeds up to 600 Mbps. It supports up to 15 WLAN-enabled devices simultaneously and automatically switches between 4GX, 4G and 3G coverage in areas where 4GX is not yet available. The battery allows customers to connect for up to 11 hours of continuous use or 260 hours on standby. 

The early Cat 11-enabled footprint is concentrated on the CBD's of Eastern Seaboard capital cities; initially Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Canberra, and in selected popular holiday locations. The network reach supporting these Cat 11 speeds will also continue to expand in line with growing mobile data demand.

Vodafone Australia expands LTE footprint

Vodafone Australia completed the re-farming of an additional 5MHz band of its 850MHz spectrum between Nelson Bay, Kiama and the eastern edge of the Blue Mountains. The upgrade will offer extra LTE capacity and an improved mobile experience. Telstra, Ericsson hit 1 Gbps LTE milestone

Ericsson and Australian operator Telstra have reached what they described as a key milestone in the development of the LTE standard by hitting record download speeds of up to 1 Gbps on a commercial mobile network. Australia LTE networks average 21 Mbps

Australia dropped one place in worldwide LTE coverage in the third quarter and retained the same ranking for speed, according to the latest Open Signal report. The report shows availability of 77 percent for Vodafone's 4G network, 76 percent for Telstra and 70 percent at Optus. Telstra to soon launch Category 9 devices

Australian operator Telstra has announced that the first Category 9 devices will soon be available on the Telstra Mobile Network. Telstra to deploy 429 3G/4G mobile towers, 250 small cells

Huawei, Qualcomm test LTE Cat 11 terminals

Huawei and Qualcomm jointly announced the completion of tests using LTE Cat 11 terminals. By aggregating three carriers (3CC CA) with 256QAM on each of the carriers, the Cat 11 terminal can reach a downlink peak data rate of up to 600 Mbps. The tests are based on Huawei's SingleRAN equipment and a Qualcomm Snapdragon next-generation LTE modem. This terminal supports a maximum aggregate bandwidth of 60 MHz and a modulation scheme as high as 256QAM. These two technologies significantly increase downlink rate.

Nokia upgrades LTE-A software to reach up to 600 Mbps

Over 40 LTE Cat 6 networks in deployment - GSA

A total 20 operators worldwide have launched Category 6 LTE-Advanced networks, according to the latest report from industry group GSA. Telstra's 4GX network reaches 1 million customers

Telstra reports that nearly one million Telstra customers across Australia now access its 4GX services. The operator's 4GX network has been extended to over 1,000 towns and suburbs. In the last week of December 2014, Telstra launched 4GX services in 600 new towns and suburbs, including holiday destinations and beachside suburbs.
